ViryaNet Names Jack McAvoy Vice President of Marketing Programs

New VP Appointed to Drive Marketing and Public Relations Efforts

WALTHAM, Mass. - March 22, 2000 - ViryaNet, a leading global provider of business-to-business Internet platform solutions for service communities, today announced the appointment of Jack McAvoy as vice president of marketing programs. Reporting to Win Burke, vice president, worldwide marketing, Mr. McAvoy will oversee programs focused on the development and maintenance of relationships with present and prospective customers and industry analysts. As the primary press contact, he also will be responsible for communicating the Company's mission, corporate objectives, and milestones to members of the media.

Mr. McAvoy possesses a wealth of expertise in high-technology marketing and communications, most recently drawn from his work with Pegasystems, Inc., where he was responsible for establishing the company's marketing department in 1992. Mr. McAvoy both supervised and engineered Pegasystems' marketing and public relations programs, serving most recently as vice president of public relations and communications. Mr. McAvoy's public relations programs were instrumental in maintaining Pegasystems' growth during the company's transition from a privately held company to a public enterprise in 1996. Prior to joining Pegasystems, Mr. McAvoy held marketing positions at Computer Associates and Wang Global. He has a bachelor's degree in economics and an advanced degree in management.
