Technology Enables the Creation and Support of Service Communities

SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. - November 21, 2000 - ViryaNet (NASDAQ: VRYA), a provider of wireless workforce management solutions for field service communities, today announced that it has filed for a provisional patent relating to its Internet platform for service communities. The patent was filed for a set of advanced technology processes and algorithms that enable service organizations to define, create, and manage Internet communities.

This technology, on which ViryaNet's wireless workforce management solution operates, unites on the Internet all of the participants in a field service community - employees, customers, partners, vendors, and suppliers - who are involved in the initiation and delivery of service.

"We use the Internet as a means of bringing together and identifying people based on their functional contribution to the service delivery process," stated Ron Ben-Natan, chief technology officer, ViryaNet. "Our technology uses knowledge-based techniques to determine rules under which service processes are implemented and different members of the service community access particular applications, collaborate, and share information with respect to field service operations."

"This patent will play an important role in our vision for the future of service organizations," continued Ben-Natan. "In today's competitive marketplace, companies rely on real-time access to critical business information. ViryaNet's solution enables a company's internal and external service groups to collaborate and conduct work as a united community."

"We're dedicated to developing and deploying technologies that ensure our competitive advantage, and we are committed to protecting the intellectual property that makes those solutions possible," added Ben-Natan.
